Looking UP

3 09 2010

Fishing definitely has picked up on several lakes in the last couple of days.  Water temps are dropping and our fall bite is starting.  Many lakes have water temps in the low to mid 60’s.  Jigs and minnows off main lake points that are deep with structure has worked on a few different lakes.  My adventure this week was blowing a drive shaft and pinion gear while guiding six miles from the ramp.  A humbling experience getting towed back in.  Fishing was good and it was at the end of the day so it could have been worse.  Fish were in 22 to 25 feet of water and the lightest bite I have experienced.  The fish were not holding the bait at all, quick sets were the only way to get hooked up.  Several fish over 20″ the biggest was 27 “and many great eating size fish 15 to 16 inches.  Cool weather for the next week or so will only help kick start the fall feed.  This is an exciting time of year.
