Limited Time

9 04 2011

Snow is melting and so goes the ice.  We have just a week or so of good conditions left for springtime ice fishing.  Over all fishing is just OK but the experience and time had on the ice is totally awesome.  A thirty mile snow machine ride to meet my buddy on a deep water trout lake was all worth the trip.  We each caught a nice trout and lost a couple of others.  The ride through 4 different lakes and several trips through the bush was tons of fun.  We were fishing in 110 Ft of water and were getting most of our hits in  90 ft.  I always use mono line but for that deep of water I switched to braided with a 3 ft. momo leader.  Trying to set a hook on 8 to 10 lbs fish with 8 lbs mono in that deep of water is awfully hard to get a good hook set.  White tube jigs tipped with a piece of sucker or cisco usually will do the trick.

Walleye fishing definitely has picked up a bit.  Betty and I have been out in the evenings and  are catching our fair share.  We also have been releasing 22″ plus females just about each time out.

Opening day for walleye is only 6 weeks away.  Betty and I already feel rushed to get started and are hoping the weather warms up so we can get in the cabins and get started.  We have a very busy year slated this year and are looking forward to seeing all of you very soon.

The trout we ate last night was fantastic!  After filleting the fish we placed the fillet on a cookie sheet with tinfoil.  We put a glaze of ” Passion Fruit/Liliko`i butter” over the entire fillet, broil the fish for about 12 minutes in the oven with a side of steamed asparagus, and a nice garden salad.  Who’s  ready?

You can get Liliko`i butter by writing or calling:                                                                                 Debbie Choo                                                                                                                                                                 P.O.
