Playoff Trout

23 04 2011

In between getting camp ready and watching the NHL playoffs Barry and I snuck out yesterday and had an awesome day of trout fishing.  Some lakes may be a little tricky getting onto this time of year but once your on the ice it still is really good.  The trout lake we were on had a good 20″ of clear ice.  We fished a little shallower than we had earlier in the year, 40 to 60ft, both of us were using spoons tipped with a chunk of sucker meat.  Northern pike should be spawning by now with walleye to follow.  Water levels seem to be on the low side but not enough to effect spawning habitat.  The snow is starting to melt but in the bush we are still looking at 2ft in spots.  I sure hope we have time to get out and do a little shed hunting but there is still too much snow and our season will be upon us before we know it.

We are looking forward to seeing many of you very soon.  Until then take care, hit em straight, and GO HAWKS!

Happy Easter!!!! May you have a safe and happy holiday.
