Hot and Dry

19 07 2011

Hot weather has not stopped the fish from biting.  Weeds are still a good option.  Weeds are growing and producing lots of oxygen and providing cover.  The Kory McNeal group (IA) stayed on the weed pattern all week and did very well, big numbers of walleye and northern pike in the 30’s made for a great week.  Everyone in camp is doing very well for walleye.  I was able to spend the day with my buddy Don Smith, his father and my father on the lake yesterday.  The fish were on and we were able to boat around 60 fish, 24″ walleye was the biggest.  But besides the fishing, the time spent with good people was the highlight for me.  The musky bite is pretty darn good.  The full moon on Friday and water temps around 73 have turned the musky’s on.  We have two groups of guys fishing for musky and they are boating 2 to 3 musky a night and seeing lots of fish.  Shorty Flees and Bob Gould have boated 11 musky, a 47 and 45 topped the mark so far and have seen 2 legals (54″).   Allen Frankovich and Ronnie Mentzer have a (45″) to add to some nice fish being caught.  Betty and I are busy here at camp with a garage project going on, along with a full camp.  The summer is flying by which means the bear hunt will be just around the corner.  We are covered in smoke from 100 forest fires that are going on right now.  The wind has switched out of the north and visibility is very low. Until next time, be safe and stay cool.
