Trout fishing has been good to excellent.   Walleye fishing has been slow to good but should be improving with warmer weather ahead and creek mouths getting warm water flowing through them.  Our gang over the weekend had great success fishing for trout; everyone was able to get into the action.  Fish were being caught from 50 to 80 feet.  Some of us were catching fish throughout the water column and the others right on the bottom, didn’t really seem to matter the fish were on.  Walleye on the other hand were elusive.  Winter is still hanging around and the walleye did not seem to be in their spring staging areas.  Local fishermen north of us have the fish figured out and have been doing fairly good all winter.

Ice conditions are good but lots of slush making lake travel very difficult.  There is virtually slush somewhere on every lake.  Snow levels are deep but with the right machine breaking trail you can go just about everywhere.

The lake trout from White Otter Lake on a previous blog has been confirmed as a new world record in the ice fishing catch and release category.  The lucky angler was Bruce Sederberg of Duluth, MN.

Limits and sizes of Northern Pike and Walleye have not changed from 2012.  Thanks to all of you again for releasing mature walleye over 18 inches.   An 8 day non-resident sport-fishing license will be$51.28 and an 8 day conservation license will be $29.40 this year.  If you do not already have your 3 year outdoor card it will cost $9.68.  For those of you who are lucky enough to make the trip over the border more than once this year, your one year S-license is $79.88 and C-license is$49.39.

We are only a little more than a month and a half away from the start of our 2013 season.  Bookings are excellent so we know we’ll be seeing many of you very soon.  Until then, stay safe and healthy.
