MERRY CHRISTMAS AND HAPPY NEW YEAR

IT’S HARD TO BELIEVE, WE JUST FINISHED OUR TENTH YEAR AT PICKEREL CREEK CAMP.  WE COULD NOT HAVE A BETTER TIME THAN THIS CHRISTMAS SEASON TO THANK ALL OF YOU FROM THE BOTTOM OF OUR HEARTS.  OUR LOYAL CUSTOMERS, FRIENDS, AND FAMILY MAKE OUR LIVES AT CAMP POSSIBLE.  THE FIRST TEN YEARS WENT BY QUICKLY AND WE ARE READY FOR THE NEXT TEN TO START IN 2014.  WE HOPE TO SEE ALL OF YOU THIS COMING SEASON AND WE WISH YOU AND YOUR FAMILIES THE VERY BEST IN THE NEW YEAR.

 FISHING

2013 WAS ONE OF THE BEST YEARS FOR FISHING IN NW ONTARIO.  WALLEYE FISHING WAS EXCELLENT.  SIZE AND NUMBERS OF QUALITY WALLEYE WERE BEING CAUGHT EVERYWHERE.  BIG WATER, SMALL WATER, AND RIVER SYSTEMS ALL PRODUCED FANTASTIC FISHING.  THE WIDE SPREAD ACTION WAS SOMETHING TO TALK ABOUT AND THE SIZE OF FISH WAS UNPRESIDENTED.  IT WAS QUITE THE CHANGE FROM A DIFFICULT 2012.  CONGRATULATIONS TO LORAINE TESLOW (IA) FOR CATCHING AND RELEASING HER BIGGEST WALLEYE (30 INCHES) ON PICKEREL LAKE.  THERE IS NO DOUBT IN OUR MINDS THAT GOOD CONSERVATION PRACTICES HELPS A FISHERY, AND WE WOULD LIKE TO THANK ALL OF YOU THAT HELP US KEEP OUR LAKES FERTILE.

 HUNTING

OUR BEAR HUNT STARTED OFF VERY GOOD BUT TURNED TOUGH AS THE LATE AUGUST TEMPERATURES REACHED THE 90’S EVERY DAY.  THE ANIMALS TURNED NOCTERNAL AND MADE A CHANLENGING TASK FOR OUR HUNTERS.  JASON CARR ( MN) HUNTED HARD ON THE TOUGHEST WEEK OF BEAR HUNTING THAT WE HAVE EVER EXPERIENCED AND ARROWED AN AWESOME MATURE BOAR THAT WEIGHED IN OVER 300 LBS.

ARCHERY MOOSE HUNTING WAS SPOTTY, SOME GUYS HAD LOTS OF ACTION AND SOME NOT SO MUCH.  I GUIDED GEORGE HAMM(WI) AND WE WERE LUCKY TO HAVE ACTION EVERYDAY. GEORGE MADE A PERFECT SHOT ON THE 3RD DAY OF OUR HUNT, A BEAUTIFUL 44” BULL. PCC’S RESIDENT MOOSE HUNTERS HIT THE GUN SEASON JUST ABOUT PERFECT, 6 ANIMALS WERE TAKEN ON OPENNING WEEKEND.

PCC DID NOT RUN A WHITETAIL HUNT IN 2013 AND MAY NOT RUN A HUNT IN 2014.  SINCE THE PEAK IN 2008, OUR WHITETAIL POPULATION HAS BEEN ON THE DECLINE, WINTERS LASTING TOO LONG HAVE TAKEN ITS TOLL ON MATURE ANIMALS.

 OGANI OUTPOST

THE OUTPOST WAS AT CAPCITY THIS YEAR AND IT DIDN’T SEEM TO LET ANYONE DOWN.  FISHING LIKE THE REST OF THE REGION WAS EXCELLENT.  BESIDES THE BIG NUMBERS OF WALLEYE OUR GUEST LANDED 6 TROPHEY NORTHERN PIKE OVER 44”.

THE HUNTERS ALL HAD GOOD ACTION DURING THE MOOSE HUNT, ROY SPOONER (ON) AND COMPANY HARVESTED AN AWESOME 54” DROP TINE BULL MOOSE.

ALL OF OUR CUSTOMERS THAT STAYED AT OGANI OUTPOST ENJOYED THE UNIQUE PIECE AND TRANQUILITY OF A VERY SPECIAL PLACE.

WE WERE ABLE TO FIND THE TIME TO MAKE A GREAT ADDITION TO THE CABIN THIS SUMMER, AN 8 BY 20 SCREENED IN PORCH.

HOT AND COLD RUNNING WATER WITH A SHOWER WILL BE NEXT ON THE LIST.  PACK YOUR BAGS LADIES, NO EXCUSES NOW!

 PCC NEWS:

THANK YOU TO ALL OF OUR CUSTOMERS THAT PURCHASED BIRCH BARK EARRINGS.  THEY SEEMED TO BE A BIG HIT AND WILL BE AVAILABLE NEXT YEAR AS WELL.

BY REQUEST, WE WILL BE SUPPLYING CROCK POTS IN ALL OF THE CABINS FOR YOUR PRE-PREPARED MEALS IN  2014.

DEAN BOWE FROM BLOOMER WISCONSIN WON THE DRAW FOR A 2014 FISHING ADVENTURE AT PCC, CONGRATULATIONS DEAN.

BETTY AND I HOPE ALL OF YOU HAVE A SAFE AND HEALTHY CHRISTMAS SEASON.  ALL THE BEST TO YOU IN THE NEW YEAR.  THANK YOU ALL.
