Winter now Summer

26 05 2014

Things are changing fast, water temps are on the rise, fish are finished with their spawn, and summer is here.  80 degree weather compared to snow and ice just a couple of weeks ago has things a bit different for fisherman this year.  Some lakes are really starting to produce and others are still lagging behind.  The fish that are being caught all have one thing in common, shallow water.  Whether the fish are feeding on baitfish or one of the many hatches that already have started, the fish are in 8 feet or less and the majority in 3 to 5 feet.  We had guest catching fish in 3 feet of water this week.  Walleye numbers are improving daily, if you are on the right body of water, 50 plus fish can be expected.  Suckers are in full swing with their annual reproduction which always signals to me the end of another spawning season and summer is near.
