Happy Thanksgiving

27 11 2014

Betty and I would like wish all our friends and family south of the border a Happy Thanksgiving.  We truly have so much to be thankful for.

We woke up this morning with a temperature of -22 degrees F., seems like winter is settling in.  Temperatures have been very cold for about a month now but snow levels are only about 6 inches depending where you are at in NW Ontario.

Deer hunting has gone just as expected, difficult.  We knew the last 3 out of 4 winters took a beating on the mature bucks, not to mention the high numbers of predators.  PCC did not run a deer hunt the last two years and unfortunately will not run a hunt in 2015.  I know many of you have been inquiring about a hunt with us but there are better places to hunt mature whitetails other than NW Ontario at least for the time being.  Anyone interested in wolf hunting?  I have only seen one mature animal while hunting and have only heard of a couple mature bucks taken, none of which would crack the 150 inch mark.

Moose hunting has been slow since the middle of October.  Cold temperatures and a restful month or so since the rut has the moose just now starting to get on the move again.  Our moose heard numbers are also down across the region but there are pockets that hold healthy numbers.    There has been a significant reduction in adult moose tags across Ontario but we are pleased to still be able to offer a moose hunt in 2015.

Ice fishing is just getting under way, 12 inches of ice on most small to medium lakes.

Thanks a bunch for reading this garble, we just went over 53,000 views.

Keep an eye out in the mail for our end of the year Christmas letter.

Have a safe and happy Thanksgiving.

Young buck for a couple years from now and a nice rub letting me know that not all the mature bucks are dead.
